Midterm Project
In this game you are tasked with searching through a farm to find three missing corgi puppies and returning them to their kennel. I chose to make this game because of a childhood experience of mine, where my family drove down to a farm to pick up a corgi puppy my dad had recently bought as a retirement present to himself. When we had a arrived at this farm I immediately ran off in favor of searching through the barns to find the other corgi puppies. I also chose this game because knowing my own past struggles with coding I didn't want to have to spend the majority of my time on the code and then not have enough time left for the art. Making this game turned out not be as hard as I anticipated. Either coding is finally starting to make sense in my head or I made the right decision to choose simple game mechanics. The hardest part of the coding process was the camera and how the player interfaced with the world. I got a lot of good ideas from people of how the corgis should behave when picked up, but ultimately I didn't have to time to figure out how to implement them. I continue to enjoy modeling in Maya even when it gets frustrating and I have no idea why the program is behaving the way it does. I think I chose a pretty ambitious object to model with the corgis and I'm still not totally happy with how they came out but I think I was able to at least communicate basically what they were.
